Board of the Regulator

The Board of the Regulator is responsible for governing, controlling, and administering the affairs of the Regulator, as required by the Regulated Health Professions Act. The Board is composed of four occupational therapists who are registrants of the Regulator and three public members who are appointed by the provincial government.

The Board is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Developing and maintaining the Mission, Vision, Values, and strategic plan for the Regulator.
  • Appointing and overseeing the Registrar, who acts as the executive director of the Regulator.
  • Setting, revising, and monitoring the annual budget of the Regulator.
  • Determining fees, fines, and penalties to be paid by applicants and registrants.
  • Creating Bylaws and setting requirements for the practice of Occupational Therapy in Nova Scotia, including concerning professional liability insurance, currency of practice, reporting requirements, and incorporation.
  • Establishing the Code of Ethics, practice standards, and practice guidelines that regulate the profession of occupational therapy in Nova Scotia.
  • Establishing and maintaining policies and procedures to govern the affairs of the Regulator.
  • Establishing and maintaining policies concerning the processes and requirements for registration and licensure.
  • Appointing and delegating tasks to committees to assist in carrying out its duties pursuant to the Regulated Health Professions Act.
